What Is All This Talk About Self-Healing?
Reiki
When I tell people I am a Reiki master, they say "Reekee? Reggae? What?" REIKI is a hands-on healing art that is so deeply relaxing it allows your body's natural healing abilities to kick in. Initially I get some weird stares with the Twilight Zone music playing, but I continue on with my explanation, hoping to regain their attention.
"So it's like a massage?" they ask, with a slight glimmer of understanding in their eyes.
"Close," I said, "and that give us a decent place to start."
Enter with me into a Reiki session. My client arrives, looking for some relief from her symptoms of MS. Headache and neck pain plague her often, and she often suffers from leg pain as well. Daily stresses of life in general only compounds these problems for her. To begin our session she lies fully dressed on the massage table, and I begin to attune to the Reiki energy. Slowly I begin a series of static hand positions (not moving), and as the energy flows, she begins to relax. Sometimes clients enter into an alpha state, a more trance-like state, as opposed to a workday brain pattern, the faster, beta-waves frequency. Deeply relaxed and anchored in the present moment, her natural healing abilities take over. After some of our sessions, she remarks about feeling "peaceful, relaxed, and at peace". One time she had an insight into a difficult situation she had been dealing with. Follow up phone calls often reveal that she had a better week than the one before - less pain, less worries, and less stress. Yeah!
Our very first session, however, ended differently - in tears! Not from pain she had received from the treatment, but painful emotional garbage she had been holding onto. Haven't you ever noticed how much better you feel after a good cry? It was a cleansing. We have continually made progress during each and every session, and I am glad to say that the Reiki has in fact helped relieve some of her symptoms.
Remarkable? Not really. Biofeedback studies of meditative states and healing confirm that this is how we work. Our body/minds have incredible restorative powers. The problem is that we often get in our own ways mentally by staying stuck in the past or fantasizing about the future. Getting anchored in the present moment changes the rules and facilitates healing. The Reiki process does this quickly, simply, and powerfully. Not only does it induce the alpha state, it also balances and boosts the overall life energy (chi, ki, or prana in Eastern terminology).

Reflexology
Reflexology is a wonderfully simple form of natural, complimentary, and holistic healing. It is the use of special techniques to break up and remove blockages in the body and restore proper circulation of blood to any given area. The focus of Reflexology is on the feet and hands where the nerve endings are located. The feet and hands mirror the entire body and every organ and body part can be found in them.
In these nerve endings, crystalline deposits form wherever there is a blockage of blood or energy. With the special techniques used in Reflexology, these deposits can easily be broken up and released into the blood stream for proper elimination. There is no equipment or tools needed to give or receive Reflexology. All you need are your own two hands!
Reflexology has been used since ancient times and is now starting to get the recognition it deserves. It seems that everyone loves to have their feet and hands rubbed!
A Reflexology session is extremely relaxing and stimulating. Since the feet and/or hands are the only areas being addressed, there is never any need for removal of clothing. The client is always made comfortable. A session usually lasts about 30 minutes, and some reflexologists offer an optional soothing foot bath at the beginning.
Reflexology can be used as a self healing art as well. It can be used to balance emotions, restore circulation throughout the physical body, and increase spiritual awareness. While increasing circulation in the brain, it can improve concentration and the ability to meditate. Reflexology can relieve insomnia and help in lowering blood pressure. Give it a try...your feet will love you for it!
One of my clients had recovered from a bad accident that left him paralyzed. He had endured rigorous rehabilitation for a year after this, and was now recovered, walking, even biking! During our session, this was all I had been told, that he was paralyzed due to damage to his C-spine, T-spine, and L-spine. At this time, he was not really experiencing any marked discomfort. Throughout the hour, we made small talk as I worked, and so far I had not noticed any particular blockages. But when I was working the spine area (on the foot), I felt a small crystalline deposit around the T6/T7 area of the spine. Not knowing EXACTLY where his injury had occurred, it literally blew my client away when I told him this. He then told me that's where one of his vertebrae had been damaged.
This information was useful because it brought up the question, "Is everything REALLY okay?" It is my job to inform, not to diagnose. When finding something out during a session, it's always good to follow up with your physician. As everyone knows, illness can always be lurking around the corner - even when we feel fine. You can go to bed one evening and wake up with a stuffy nose, sore throat, and coughing the very next morning. We sometimes never see it coming. Look at this as a radar detection system if you will. Kind of like a GPS, navigating you where you need to go. When you look at it like that, you can see where the term "preventive medicine" comes from.
The body is a fascinating, miraculous creation! Our ability to heal is within each and every one of us. Are you tired of feeling tired? Are you ready for a change? Call us today!
